Let's Get Magically Real Together
I empower writers to to generate writing that creates wonder for themselves first, and then for their readers. I am always deeply excited by the chance to revitalize and reawaken the writer’s innate sense of amazement, by engaging their curiosity about their lives and the world around them, and to reestablish confidence in the writer’s own unique voice, perspective and ability. Together we look for unseen, overlooked magical possibilities in their immediate surroundings and thought processes and bringing those into writing, in prose and in poetry.

My name is Stephanie….
As a literary fiction and magical realism writer, I delight in weaving stories about the real world(s) with a dash of the impossible, the unreal, and the slightly absurd.
I am a seven-time Pushcart Prize–nominated novelist, poet, and award-winning writing instructor with four decades of experience working with writers across genres and various life backgrounds. My work explores themes of transformation, identity, and the wild terrain of the human heart—with a flair for the unexpected and the surreal.
I’ve taught creative writing and literature at universities across the country (and the world) and currently mentor writers through workshops and private coaching. As a teacher, I find joy in empowering writers to discover that touch of the unexpected in their own work. Opening up writing to the logically impossible makes characters jump into action and words pop with freshness. It’s a thrill for me to witness my students finding joy in their writing and connecting with their authentic voices as storytellers.
